The climate crisis affects every issue philanthropy cares about. Health, education, migration, inequality, the arts: none of it is insulated. Philanthropy For Climate mobilises foundations to act on that reality, integrating climate action across their work, regardless of their mission, size or geography.
Addressing the climate crisis requires philanthropy to integrate a climate lens across its grantmaking, operations, investments, and influence. It also requires networks and philanthropy support organisations to help foundations take action in ways that reflect their local contexts and priorities.

Through a network of locally led commitments connected at the global level, the initiative supports philanthropy organisations to take meaningful climate action in ways that reflect their regional realities.
Progress to date
Through a network of more than 40 philanthropy organisations and networks across multiple continents, Philanthropy For Climate has pioneered a locally led, globally connected model for accelerating climate action across the sector. Over 1,000 foundations across 30+ countries have now signed a commitment, representing more than USD 5 billion in annual philanthropic expenditure.
- 95% of foundations surveyed reported making progress on climate since signing.
- Nearly two-thirds increased their climate-related funding.
- 20% began supporting climate initiatives for the first time.
- Signatories with endowments steward more than USD 31.8 billion in assets.

WINGS’ role
WINGS hosts the International Commitment on Climate Change and leads the development of Philanthropy For Climate globally, in partnership with Philea, who coordinates the work across Europe through the European Philanthropy Coalition for Climate.
We support the growth of new commitments, strengthen existing ones, and help ensure the movement develops as a connected global effort rooted in locally led action rather than a set of disconnected pledges.
