2025 was a year that fundamentally reshaped the philanthropic landscape. Unprecedented global aid cuts, escalating conflicts, democratic erosion, shrinking civic space, extreme climate disasters, and deepening inequality reshaped the environment in which philanthropy operates. At the same time, rapid advances in AI, both its potential and its risks, created new uncertainties for civil society, accountability, and justice.

WINGSForum 2026, WINGS’ global flagship event, will be co-hosted by the Community Foundations of Canada in Montreal, Canada. Following the success of WINGSForum 2023 in Nairobi, which brought together over 350 participants from 50+ countries, we’re excited to continue the journey in Montreal for three days of connection, learning, and bold action.

The Philanthropy Transformation Initiative (PTI), conceptualised and hosted by WINGS, is a collective effort by philanthropy networks, advisories, support organisations, academic centres, and funders from around the world to challenge our field to transform ourselves, our practices and our institutions and build a movement to address existential global challenges.

As the hosts of the International Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change, Philea and WINGS launched the first-ever International Philanthropy Commitment Progress Report.

2024 was marked by extraordinary challenges—from conflicts and climate disasters to shrinking civic space and rising inequalities. Yet, amid these crises, philanthropy has persisted in working towards a more just, equitable, and sustainable world.

Agence Française de Développement, in partnership with WINGS, is supporting WINGS and partners, the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Africa Venture Philanthropy Alliance, Fondation de France, Philea, F20 and OECD NetFWD to organise exchanges between African and European endowed and/or corporate philanthropic foundations to boost peer learning and collaboration.

2023 was a year full of several important milestones for WINGS, from signing the first-ever Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA) between the EU and a philanthropy organisation to launching the Philanthropy Transformation Initiative and our new 5-year Strategic Plan.

Local philanthropy, as a force to support civil society and development, has the potential to play a much more central role in dialogues about how best to implement localisation.
