Exploratory Mapping of the Philanthropy Support Ecosystem in Guatemala
Mapping philanthropy support ecosystems (PSEs) is intrinsic to WINGS’ core mission to ensure philanthropic actors around the world have the support, knowledge, networks and enabling environment they need to grow and create transformative change. In 2023, based on an analysis of potential opportunities for collaboration following the democratic renewal in Guatemala, WINGS and partners (private foundations, international donors and local actors) started an exploratory mapping of the landscape of philanthropic players, the relationships connecting them, and the gaps and opportunities to build a collective roadmap to strengthen the field. The findings of this exploratory mapping confirm that the ecosystem of support for philanthropy in Guatemala is practically nonexistent. Infrastructure or support organisations are scarce, there is no investment in the ecosystem, and there are no collaborations that maximise the potential of philanthropy. The following report contains not only the findings but also includes an initial roadmap that was co-created with a steering committee of local partners and which will help to engage stakeholders and expand the initiative’s scope to build the PSE in Guatemala.
